The Irony of the new awareness of Diveristy is that as we promote the Diversity of identities we are eroding the diversity of opinions and freedoms of speech.
In my experience, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion awareness and practice is made more difficult due to our ‘climate of correctness’. The diversity of our opinions is being eroded. While we are being asked to accept the diversity of identities. Voicing difference or in this case indifference has become offensive in our society. We must be seen to be tolerant and accepting. But, what happens to our tolerance when people voice opinions or views that do not align with our own?
As EDI training seeks to promote equity, can we also give some space to those who hold diverse views and open up communication rather than preaching acceptance while condemning freedom of speech.
